Dear Parents and Guardians,

As you may already be aware, on June 19, 2020 the Minister of Education announced Ontario’s approach for the reopening of publicly funded schools for the 2020-2021 school year. To read the details of the announcement, please visit the Ontario.ca website.

All school boards across the province, including the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board (NPSC), are preparing reentry plans for the upcoming school year, based on three delivery models for instruction:

1. A full return to conventional, regular classroom instruction with enhanced health & safety protocols;
2. A continuation of distance learning, including the use of live, synchronous online instruction; and
3. An adapted delivery model that enables students to return to class with blended virtual learning, that includes health and safety protocols and will limit the maximum number of students to 15 per class.

Our staff have been working with local health authorities and our partners in education across the province to plan for these three delivery models in the upcoming school year. In early August, we expect the Ministry of Education to announce which learning model is most appropriate for September and we will communicate this decision to our parents.

Return to School Survey
Once the Ministry of Education announces which model will be chosen for instruction in September, NPSC will be sending a survey to parents to indicate their intentions for their child’s learning. This information will inform transportation routes, class sizes, health and safety protocols and other considerations for school reopening.

With either a conventional or an adapted program delivery model for September, families will have the option to send their children to school in September or to continue student learning at home, in an online format. This decision will need to be confirmed in the forthcoming survey and will allow NPSC to plan for a safe and healthy start to the school year.

Stay Connected!
In the coming weeks, we will be providing as much detail as possible to help families and staff prepare for the upcoming school year. We thank you for your patience, support and understanding and look forward to connecting with you again soon with our survey.

Families are encouraged to continue to visit the Board website and our Facebook (/NPSCDSB), Twitter (@npsc_schools) and Instagram (@npsc_schools) pages for the most recent information and updates. We will continue to communicate with you as more detailed information becomes available.

Please continue to stay safe and be well!
Sincerely,

Anna Marie Bitonti
Director of Education
