Posted on 10/29/2020

Schools across the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board participated in Treaties Recognition Week through a variety of educational and interactive learning activities. Schools participated in a variety of activities including learning about treaties and developing their own classroom treaties and wampum belts, inviting virtual guest speakers, including Knowledge Keepers and Elders to speak to classes, learning to make medicine wheels through a virtual classroom tutorials and using classroom resources such as We are all Treaty People, Back to Batoche and Taking Care of Mother Earth and more.

The Indigenous Student Trustee at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall raised awareness about the Week and its importance by working with student group Makwa Dodem and a staff member to draft morning announcements, share resources with the school community and engage students and staff in dialogue. Special thank you to Grace Couchie and Tory Fisher for your important contributions to this learning.
