Recognizing Children of Kamloops

Recognizing the Children of Kamloops Indian Residential School
Posted on 05/31/2021

The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board is deeply saddened by the recent news of the discovery of the remains of 215 children lost at the Kamloops Indian Residential School in Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation Territory.  It is a difficult reminder of the injustices against our Indigenous community in our Nation's recent history.  We grieve for the students who perished and any members of our First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples who have suffered.

Our schools and board offices are flying their flags at half-mast until further notice to honour the lives and memories of those children.  Our staff and students will wear orange and take a moment of silence to recognize this tragic loss.  We keep the children and their families in our thoughts and prayers, for peace and healing.
