| Standardized Ventilation Measures Reporting |
NPSC continues to optimize air quality in schools through improved ventilation and filtration. Implemented measures are dependent on the type of ventilation and feasibility within the context of school facilities and related building systems. This is a key element in the multiple protective strategies being employed to support healthier and safe learning environments for students and staff.
Ventilation involves increasing the flow of outdoor/fresh air for diluting the concentration of any infectious particles.
Filtration involves the use of different types of fibrous media designed to remove particles from the airstream.
- All ventilation systems at NPSC schools have been assessed to ensure they are fully
operational and serviced where necessary.
- System inspections have taken place and will continue during the school year to ensure
systems are operating properly.
- Ventilation systems have been modified to increase the amount of incoming fresh air and
have been programmed to operate longer hours to ensure occupied spaces have full air
exchanges before, during, and after class time.
- 290 stand-alone HEPA filters have been deployed to NPSC schools.
- Stand-alone HEPA filtration units have been positioned in all occupied Kindergarten classrooms and all other occupied classrooms which do not have access to mechanical ventilation systems.
- Stand-alone HEPA filtration units have also been provided in libraries, gyms, staff rooms and offices where mechanical ventilation is not available.
