Father Joseph de Viveiros

The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board (NPSC) is pleased to welcome its new Board Chaplain.

Father Joseph de Viveiros is joining NPSC from the Waterloo Catholic District School Board, where he served in the role of Spiritual Animator. Father de Viverios is also a graduate of Scollard Hall and was raised in North Bay, and that history played a part in him returning home. He was ordained in 1992 to the Congregation of the Resurrection religious community and has spent the majority of his career in southern Ontario, specifically Waterloo. As an accomplished scholar, Father Joseph has attained three separate Master’s Degrees, specializing in the Divinity, Religious Education and Liturgy.

Father Joseph brings a range of experiences to this role, such as serving as a secondary school Mathematics teacher, as a Consultant in the Office of Religious Education for the Archdiocese of Toronto and as a session Lecturer at Regis College with the University of Toronto. He also serves as Vicar Provincial for the Canadian Province of the Congregation of the Resurrection, has experience as Director of Liturgy for the 2002 World Youth Day and as Pastor in parishes in the Waterloo region.

With a deep passion and dedication to his vocation of supporting youth and adult faith formation, Father Joseph also brings considerable experience in facilitating workshops and spiritual retreats.

“Our Board of Trustees is pleased to welcome Father Joseph as Board Chaplain.” NPSC Board Chair Shawn Fitzsimmons announced. “His vast experience in educational and pastoral ministries will serve NPSC well and continue to support all facets of our Catholic Education community with a focus on faith development.”

“As a Catholic Faith community, NPSC is excited to walk alongside Father Joseph to provide a Ministry of presence to our Board of Trustees and staff, and to continue to renew the great promise and gift of Catholic Education in the service of our students and entire Board community we serve.” added Paula Mann, NPSC Director of Education.

Father Joseph will begin his Chaplain duties with the NPSC during the month of February 2023.
