NPSC Mourns the Passing of Pope Francis

NPSC Mourns the Passing of Pope Francis: 1936 - 2025
Posted on 04/21/2025

As a community of faith, it is with profound sadness that the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board (NPSC) mourns the passing of our Holy Father, Pope Francis, who was welcomed into God’s loving embrace on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88.

Pope Francis, a humble and most wise shepherd in our Catholic faith, lived a life of selfless service and unwavering faith with a kindness and compassion that knew no bounds. He dedicated his life to advocating for and supporting the most vulnerable among us, imparting us with the true meaning and spirit of Christ’s teachings: to love one another.

In a world often filled with despair, Pope Francis was a true beacon of hope, emanating generosity and humility. By declaring 2025 as the Jubilee Year of Hope, our Holy Father taught us – as well as those all over the world – to live in the service of others, leading with faith, hope, and love, and reminding us of the significant difference we can make in the world when we live by these strong theological virtues. His legacy, compassion, dedication to service, and care for the common good will continue to inspire us all and is deeply aligned to our vision and mission, Rooted in Faith, Alive in Spirit, and our NPSC Pastoral theme of Hope.

In this time of sorrow, we humbly extend our gratitude to God for blessing us with the opportunity to witness Pope Francis’ life of faith and leadership, a true gift and light in our lives. As our NPSC faith community comes together to honour his memory at the beginning of the Easter season, may we live by the Gospel values that our Holy Father cherished, and may we support one another during this significant time in our faith.

Over the coming days, we will support our NPSC school communities by creating spaces for us to gather, pray, lift each other up, and engage in reflection to honour Pope Francis. As a sign of deep respect and reverence for our Holy Father, flags at all NPSC schools will be lowered to half-mast.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

United together in peace and faith,
