Honouring Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 2025
Posted on 09/30/2025

On September 30, the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board (NPSC) observes Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Our team at NPSC continues to honour the Survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never returned home, and acknowledge the ongoing impact these institutions have on Indigenous families and communities, serving as a reminder of the enduring truth that Every Child Matters.

Commemoration of this painful piece of Canada's history is an essential part of reconciliation, which we support in our NPSC Truth and Reconciliation Action Plan.

On this important day, students and staff in our Catholic schools will participate in a variety of activities – within schools and the broader community – to honour the day and reflect on the history and legacy of residential schools. These activities provide meaningful opportunities for reflection, learning, and solidarity across our school communities. For a full overview of activities, please see our school activities document.

We continue to hold all children and families affected by residential schools in our thoughts and prayers, seeking peace, healing, and hope.

We encourage our entire NPSC community to learn more and continue their journey toward reconciliation with us by exploring these Indigenous-led and national resources:

Together, let us continue remembering, listening, and walking with humility on the path of reconciliation.
