Pope Francis is offering a special prayer on March 25 (feast of the Annunciation) and will be consecrating both Ukraine and Russia to the Blessed Virgin Mary on that day. The Ukrainian Catholic bishops of Canada are proposing that all of us unite ourselves to consecration by a novena, to be prayed every day up to March 25.

Yesterday’s announcement by the Province requires a number of changes to the Transportation Plan which outlined the safety precautions to be taken as we dealt with COVID-19. With many of the restrictions now being removed, including the mandatory wearing of masks, designated seating and seating plans, the NPSSTS wishes to continue our approach of safe transportation for all.

The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board is conducting a Child Care Program Needs Survey for the 2022-2023 school year. The goal of this survey is to understand the need for childcare programs for school aged children, and assist with child care program and service planning. We are asking all families to complete this survey on child care needs. The survey should take about five minutes to complete.

Our friends at St. Hubert have been learning about Le Carnaval with Madame Clancy this month. The students were given the opportunity to create floats for the St.Hubert Parade De Carnaval. Merci to Madame Clancy for bringing together the 2/3, 4/5, 5/6, 7/8C and 7/8D classes for this extraordinary celebration!

The Ministry of Health and our Public Health partners support the fact that vaccines are safe and continue to represent the most effective strategy to protect Ontarians from COVID-19. It is also important for the protection of our youngest children (0-4 years) who are not yet eligible for vaccine protection. The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit in collaboration with local school boards invite parents to complete a short survey to assist in the planning of future youth vaccination clinics in our district. The survey will be active until February 20th:

Our SJSH Rise team recognized Bell Let's Talk Day by asking staff & students to share what they do to support their mental health or the mental health of others. Special shout out to Mr. Tignanelli's Equity, Diversity & Social Justice class who also participated. These great ideas are wonderful suggestions for us all to consider.

Our friends at St. Luke took part in an interesting activity learning to code, through music. Students experimented with the digital platform, EarSketch, which teaches users common programming languages, such as Python and JavaScript, all while composing music! We look forward to hearing more of these beautiful, mathematic symphonies!

As you may already be aware, the Government of Ontario has confirmed that elementary and secondary schools in Ontario will be closed for in-class learning following the winter break until at least January 17, 2022. In order to ensure a smooth transition to remote learning for students and to provide time for our school staff to plan for these changes, remote learning for all students will begin Thursday January 6, 2022. NPSC staff will be working on Wednesday January 5, 2022 to prepare students for remote learning and for the distribution of technology.

As you may already be aware, the Government of Ontario, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, has made several public health recommendations including changes to isolation requirements and Ontario's Daily Self-Screening Tool.
