As part of St. Peter of the Apostle Parish Mission visitation from October 26 to November 3, we were honoured to welcome His Excellency Bishop Thomas Dowd to three of our schools: St. Luke, St. Hubert, and Holy Cross Catholic elementary schools.  During the St. Peter’s Parish Mission last week, Bishop Dowd and Father Francis also spent time with the parishioners of both St. Peter’s Parish in North Bay and St. Elizabeth’s Parish in Temagami, and met with local community partners in government, Catholic education and healthcare.  Bishop Dowd culminated the Parish Mission by presiding over the Sacrament of Confirmation at Holy Name of Jesus, Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption, and St. Peter’s Parishes in North Bay on November 2.

On Monday October 28, Bishop Dowd met with many students at St. Luke School, where he shared insights into his role as Bishop and explained the sacred significance of His vestments, mitre, and pastoral staff.

Bishop Dowd’s next stop was at St. Hubert School on Tuesday, October 29!  His Excellency was greeted by Principal Elizabeth Carreiro and the school’s Student Parliament, who began with an opening prayer.  Students then showcased their musical talents, performing “This Little Light of Mine” through both song and dance.  Bishop Dowd spoke about his role as a Shepard leader, guiding and supporting the community.  After receiving a gift, he engaged with Intermediate students who had many insightful questions that sparked inspiring conversations.

On Wednesday October 30, Bishop Dowd concluded his tour of NPSC schools with a visit to Holy Cross.  He received a warm welcome by Principal Dan Seguin, who spoke about the gift of Catholic education and extended appreciation to Bishop Dowd and Father Francis for spending time with the school community. The school choir, led by teachers Mrs. Spack and Mme. Charette, performed two songs including the singing of “Our Father”.  The student council made a presentation to His Excellency, and the Bishop also engaged in conversation with the Intermediate students.
