Celebrating Excellence in Catholic Education: 2026 Director of Education and Barbara McCool Awards Mass and Ceremony
On the evening of May 5, 2026, during Catholic Education Week, more than 100 members of our Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board (NPSC) community gathered in the St. Lawrence Chapel at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall to celebrate the 2026 Director of Education Awards of Excellence in Catholic Education and the Barbara McCool Leadership Awards in Special Education.
The celebration began with a special Mass presided over by NPSC Board Chaplain, Father Joseph de Viveiros, C.R., and enriched by the beautiful music of the NPSC Staff Choir. In his homily, centred on gratitude, Father Joseph reflected on the importance of giving thanks and recognizing those whose dedication and service make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. With family members and friends present to honour their loved ones, the atmosphere was one of reverence, joy, and heartfelt appreciation.
Following the Mass, the awards ceremony provided an opportunity to recognize each recipient individually, highlighting the unique gifts, talents, and commitment they bring to our Catholic education community each day. A reception followed, allowing guests to gather and celebrate collectively, while members of the St. Joseph-Scollard Hall (SJSH) band, under the direction of Mr. Brian Overholt, filled the space with uplifting music.
We extend our sincere congratulations to each of our distinguished award recipients for their meaningful contributions and service to Catholic education. We also thank their families and friends for sharing in this special celebration, and offer our appreciation to the NPSC Staff Choir, Mr. Overholt, and the SJSH student performers for their heart-warming and joyful musical contributions, which so beautifully enhanced the evening.
