National Indigenous History Month 2026

Celebrating National Indigenous History Month 2026
Posted on 06/01/2026

June is National Indigenous History Month, a time for us to continue deepening our understanding and appreciation of the rich histories, diverse cultures, resilience and enduring contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada.

Through literature, music, research projects, outdoor activities, and much more, our students and staff will engage in meaningful learning experiences that honour Indigenous voices, explore diverse cultural traditions, and invite reflection and appreciation for the incredible strength and resilience of Indigenous communities.

Many learning experiences will centre Anishinaabe histories, perspectives, and ways of knowing, in recognition of the Anishinaabe land on which our schools are situated, under the Robinson-Huron Treaty of 1850.

During the month, our schools will also celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day, observed on June 21 in conjunction with the summer solstice.

We extend profound gratitude to our Indigenous education team, whose knowledge, care, and wisdom help our entire NPSC community grow as learners and as individuals on the path of truth and reconciliation. We also offer our heartfelt thanks to the community partners, Knowledge Keepers, and Elders who continue to guide us thoughtfully in the spirit of mutual respect and understanding.

This learning represents not a single day or month, but is part of ongoing learning that takes place within the schools of the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District throughout the year.
