The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board is pleased to provide parents and guardians with details on the seven (7) planned Professional Activity (PA) Days for the 2024-2025 school year, in accordance with O. Reg. 226/23 on School Year Calendars and Professional Activity Days. We invite our parents to review the details in the chart below on the topics and learning/training activities that staff will be engaged in to support your child’s learning and achievement, focused on the Provincial education priorities. Details for each PA Day will be shared at least fourteen (14) days in advance of each scheduled date.

Afternoon: Student Mental Health & Well-being

Our Mental health Lead will guide a session on Emotion Coaching supported by a resource adapted by School Mental Health Ontario. This session is aimed at further equipping educators with tools to support student mental health at school so that they can effectively return to learning learning and will support educators in addressing high-risk behaviours and health impacts of substance use like vaping and excessive cellphone use for students.

Please note:
 Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) re-certification training for Educational Assistants (EAs), Social Workers (SW’s), Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), Indigenous Graduation Coach, & Behaviour Management Consultant (BMC) will be held on August 30, 2024. Full day BMS certification training will take place for all new EA’s. Further details will be provided for these individuals through board email. Staff will also engage in Emotion Coaching and in Health & Safety training (Vector Solutions).

All Elementary Schools Student Well-Being – In their school teams, the school administration team will lead the school staff in exploring resources from the Board, Ministry of Education, and North Bay Parry Sound Public Health to consider for use in educating students about the harms of vaping, excessive screen time (use of personal devices), bullying and school safety. The school administration teams will also examine student information and relevant student achievement data of incoming students, and they will lead discussion and learning in grade level groups that will focus on student well-being activities and building strong connections within our NPSC schools and classrooms. All K-3 (EFI and ENG) educators will participate in an overview and refresher session on the Acadience Reading Screener. During this session, they will review the grade-level screens and learn about the facilitation parameters for each one.
