We are thrilled to announce that
Summer Challenge is back!
Join us for our summer 2024 production of "Willy Wonka".
The delicious adventures experienced by Charlie Bucket on his visit to Willy Wonka's mysterious chocolate factory light up the stage in this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl's fantastical tale. Featuring the enchanting songs from the 1971 film starring Gene Wilder and new songs by Leslie Bricusse (Jekyll & Hyde, Doctor Dolittle) and Anthony Newley, Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka is a scrumdidilyumptious musical guaranteed to delight everyone's sweet tooth.
Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka follows enigmatic candy manufacturer, Willy Wonka, as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whomever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats: the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka's rules in the factory... or suffer the consequences.

What is Summer Challenge?
Summer Challenge is an enrichment art course offered through the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board summer school program that has been running since 2003. This program provides youth entering grade 6 through grade 12 the opportunity to develop acting, singing, dancing, and production skills while earning credits towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Students participating in the on-stage component of the course can earn up to 2 credits. The 2-credit on-stage course requires fulfilling 180 course hours and students are required to complete assignments relevant to the production.
How to Sign Up
Students must attend Information Night during which they will learn an audition dance and vocal piece. That night, they will have the opportunity to sign up for their audition time for a lead role, support role, dancer or member of the vocal ensemble. Some students will be called again for a call-back. Once roles have been determined, students will be contacted. We try to take as many students as we can, however this depends on the number of students who audition and roles required in the production. Numbers are limited. Please refer to the main page for this year's Information Night and audition dates.
