The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board (NPSC) is honoured to be shortlisted for an Excellence in Governance award, in the “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” category, through the Governance Professionals of Canada (GPC).
In a September 15, 2022 news release, GPC announced the shortlist for the 2022 Excellence in Governance awards, which recognizes and celebrates the dedication and contribution that governance professionals, their boards, and their organizations make toward raising the bar on good governance practices in Canada. NPSC joins 22 organizations from a variety of sectors, and is the only school board shortlisted for this national award.

NPSC has proven to be a leader in the area of diversity, equity, and inclusion as a result of the leadership of its Board of Trustees in the implementation of its governance model. The Policy Governance Model® ensures the Board’s focus on outcomes for students is clear and maintains its vision and priorities in Catholic faith, equity, diversity, student achievement, and well-being in a fiscally responsible manner and with accountability to community stakeholders and ratepayers.
The nomination for the Excellence in Governance award focuses specifically on the work of NPSC in the areas of Indigenous Education, Special Education, and Mental Health. The nomination highlights the Board’s leadership in facilitating ownership linkage with community stakeholders including our Indigenous community, its strong history of receiving input and advice from its Special Education Advisory Committee, the early development of key governance policies focused on Indigenous Student Trustee representation, and its collective work in responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action with Catholic faith as our foundation.
Board Chair de Jourdan adds, “This recognition is reflective of the enduring dedication and contributions made by the Board of Trustees and Senior Administration, who strive to provide the best possible student experience in the learning environments of our Catholic schools that respect diversity, equity, and inclusion. This is evident not only in our Board policies but also in a much more visible way through the relationships, programming, activities, and celebrations that take place within our schools. We acknowledge the effort of our dedicated teachers and staff who create these conditions on a daily basis in the hallways and classrooms, and we are honoured to share this recognition with them.”
The final award winners in each category will be announced and celebrated on November 17, 2022, at the 9th annual GPC Excellence in Governance Awards evening to be held in Toronto.

A shortlist of finalists for the awards will be released in September 2022, and winners will be announced and celebrated on Thursday November 17 in Toronto.
