Gr. 7 & 8 Mathematics and Literacy Program

This program will be facilitated in a virtual learning environment through a range of delivery methods including synchronous learning model. Planning of this program continues to respect the direction provided by the Ministry of Education and Provincial Medical Officer of Health and is contingent upon sufficient student enrolment.

Our summer camp program addresses the needs of the students in reading, writing, numeracy and technology. It is also designed to help boost student self-confidence and self-worth, resulting in increased confidence in Grade 8 and/or a successful transition to secondary school. Students will participate in a variety of engaging, interactive and collaborative activities to help them to improve their skills in the following areas:

  • Reading - Students will be exposed to a variety of text genres and will learn how to respond effectively to comprehension questions using a variety of reading strategies
  • Writing - Students will learn how to write complex sentences, and well-developed and organized paragraphs
  • Numeracy - The focus is on further developing computational fluency using a variety of strategies, and to review grades 7 & 8 Number Sense concepts

Dates: July 6 - July 24

Eligibility: Students currently in Grades 7 and 8.

Registration Deadline: Friday, June 26th

Summer School Dual Credit

Theories and practical aspects of becoming an effective leader and program planner provide a dual focus for this course. Students will lead activities for a wide variety of populations and will organize programs using the Systematic Planning Process model.

Leadership and Program Planning – GPA4T (College Course: REC105)
This course provides students with the knowledge and content related to understand multi-dimensional aspects of being a successful leader. The students will experience various planning techniques and leadership styles through participation in workshops and applied sessions.

Dates: July 06 - July 31. Synchronous delivery model through Contact North.

Dual Credits: One senior level high school credit and one college course

Fee: Tuition and materials fees are covered through the Dual Credit program.

Note: This course will be delivered Online. All students are expected to have access to reliable Internet and a digital device.
